Little puppy - big voice!

It was Kaia's trip to the vets this morning to get her first set of injections. She was as good as gold at the surgery and pretty much stole the show in the waiting room but the car journey was another matter.
Kaia decided she did not want to travel in the boot of the car and after 5 minutes had alreayd climbed over onto the back seats. I put her carrier (that doesnt have a door!) on the passenger seatfacing the car door but even this didnt stop the screaming, barking, yelping, crying, whinnig at the top of her voice. In the end i drove with her fast asleep on my lap, what a game!

She also had another trip to the park and was alot more interested this time, not so much nervous shaking and sad face and more looking around and even an excited wriggle. I'm sure by the time she is able to go donw on the ground I'll be more than happy that i dont have to carry her anymore :D

Kaia has arrived!

Yes, yesterday was the day we collected Kaia. It was a long journey and both myself an my mom were tired but it was all definately worth it, we came home with our beautiful munsterlander puppy Kaia.
She was very nervous on the journey and it took her a while to settle when we got back. She met Megan and Bessie, both of whom were not too impressed, and staked a claim to the large vetbed dog cushion in the kitchen!
We had a few whimpers in the night but she soon settled again and awoke this morning with a happy frame of mind. She's had a great play in the garden and found out that chickens tails are great to hang onto (the chickens dont reciprocate the amusement!) and that Megan makes a good playmate afterall :)
She had her first trip to the park, albeit in my arms, and i'm sure is looking forward to when she can get down on her paws for a race around.
I've taken lots of photos and this is my favourite, I hope you like it.

3 days to go...

Not long now! Almost everything is ready for Kaia's arrival now, just one last problem is getting Megan to sleep downstairs (as to stay with Kaia). Megan normally sleeps in my parent room but we have decided this has to stop. For two nights now Megan has been left downstairs with the stairgate closed, we've had wimpering, crying, pawing at the gate but hopefully she'll get the idea. I just hope we dont have both Kaia and Megan whinning through the night!!

4 days to go...

I've had a busy day today, spent 5 hours on my revision and another few hours with my poultry and very demanding ducklings in the garden (see photo) , i'm trying to get as much done before Kaia arrives so that there is no pre-exam stress and panic whilst raising a puppy. The date is drawing nearer.

I can't believe it's only 5 days until we fetch Kaia, it seems like it was only yesterday when I was looking at photos of 9 day old pups, adorable.

7 days to go...

With only a week to go i've purchased some puppy food (always important!) and sorted out the little collar and lead set i purchased off eBay for her, it's a beautiful blue soft weave set with pretty braiding on the collar, she'll be the talk of the town :) Only the best for my Kaia.

I'm not the only one waiting for Kaia

Kaias arrival is not only being eagerly awaited by me but also my Bessie and Megan. They wouldn't tell you themselves but I think they are both looking forward to the new puppy, but they both have their own ideas on why.

Bessie knows a new puppy will mean lots of extra treats for herself, to make her feel special, and to a slightly senile food obsessed veteran the idea of more food is wonderful!

Megan, however, can't wait until Kaia arrives as this means the puppy crate will be open and she can finally get that 'puppy kong' she's been starring at through the bars for days. After a bout of whinning a few days ago I opened the cage for her and out came Kaias brand new pheasant soft toy (see photo!). Megan gave it a good playing with before returning it to the crate, slightly soggy and thoroughly tested out - bless her :)

8 days to go...

The countdown continues, just another 8 days to go until the arrival of Kaia the larger munsterlander puppy.

I've already set up her puppy crate with her bed, toys, bowl and blanket. We havent used a crate before for any of our dogs but as I will be revising for my exams Kaia needs to learn that I have to have some important study time and the crate will help to keep her safe and out of mischief for a few hours. After the 15th of May though, she will have my undivided attention for another 5 months (or until I get a proper job!).

Choosing my Munsterlander

I'd located the breeder, gorgeous puppies still available so I was out to get one. This will be the blog about my Munsterlander girl.

She was chosen from a beautiful (if not large) litter of 13 puppies that were born on the 5th of February 2007.

I had the pick of two very pretty little bitches and being the softy that I am I went for the little scrawny one, who, in my opinion, was also the cutest!

I've been awaiting her arrival since she was 2 weeks old and there are only 9 days left before we set off across the country to collect her, god knows how i'm going to wait 9 days!!

Choosing the puppy was easy but i never realised how hard it is to choose a name. My family and I sat around for ages going through all the good puppy names and i scoured the internet for inspiration. After 2 long week of indesicion I have finally settled upon the name Kaia. Something unusual for an unusual breed, i think it will suit her perfectly.

The countdown starts here...

9 Days to go!

The day I got a 'yes'!

After years of asking the day arrived when my parents relented and agreed that i could have a puppy of my own.

We currently have two family dogs, a 4 year old springer spaniel bitch named Megan and a 14 year old springer x collie bitch named Bessie.
Both are fantastic dogs but I felt i wanted a dog of my own, to compete with and be my permanent companion for the years to come.

My parents agreed that i could choose whichever dog i wanted the only condition being that it had to be a bitch - fair enough!

I had seen a Large Munsterlander at Crufts last year and it was love at first sight. I was lucky enough to spot a second one in Croatia while i was on holiday (she belonged to a friendly German family who were also on holiday) and i knew this was the breed for me.

I was aware of the low number of litters of Munsterlanders in the UK and thought that I may have to settle for a more common breed, perhaps a second springer spaniel. So imagine my excitement when i discovered a lovely litter of 13 had just been born and that there were still 3 bitches available - I've never contacted someone so fast in my entire life!!

It all went from there :)
